Your First Steps in Palworld

Palworld drops you into the Palpagos Islands with almost nothing. Your first priority is basic survival — gather wood and stone, craft a Pal Sphere, and catch your first Pal as quickly as possible. That first Pal will work in your base and fight alongside you, making everything else much easier.

When you start, you'll pick your starting region. The Windswept Hills area near the beginning is the safest zone for new players — enemies are weak and common Pals like Lamball and Chikipi are plentiful.

💡 Pro TipPunch trees and rocks to gather your first resources. It's slow, but you need it to craft your first Stone Pickaxe and get going faster.

How to Catch Pals

Catching Pals is the core loop of Palworld. Here's exactly how it works:

  1. Craft Pal Spheres at a Primitive Workbench (5 Wood + 5 Stone + 1 Paldium Fragment each)
  2. Weaken the Pal you want — bring it to roughly 30% health
  3. Throw the Pal Sphere at the weakened Pal
  4. The catch chance increases the lower the Pal's health, and with higher-tier spheres
⚠️ WarningDon't kill the Pal by accident. Switch to weaker attacks or punch barehanded when the Pal is nearly down. A dead Pal can't be caught.

Pal Sphere Tiers

Better spheres have higher base catch rates. Upgrade as soon as you can unlock them in the Technology tree:

Building Your First Base

Your base is where your Pals live and work. Build it near resources — ideally close to trees, stone deposits, and a water source. The area near the Plateau of Beginnings fast travel point is a popular starting spot.

3Max bases (early game)
20Max Pals per base
15Palbox required first

The first thing you place should always be a Palbox — it's the heart of your base and lets your Pals work automatically. Once placed, assign Pals to the base and they'll start gathering resources and crafting on their own.

Essential Early Base Structures

Best Early Game Pals

These Pals are easy to catch and extremely useful in the first few hours:

🐑 Lamball

Found everywhere near the starting area. Has Handiwork and Transporting work suitabilities — perfect for automating your base early. Also drops Wool for crafting.

🐧 Pengullet

Found near water. Has Watering work suitability which is needed for Berry Plantations. Doubles as a decent early combat Pal with Ice element attacks.

🦊 Foxparks

A Fire-type Pal that's excellent for combat. Can also be used as a makeshift flamethrower when held — dealing fire damage to enemies. Great for early boss fights.

🐄 Mozzarina

Produces Milk passively in your base. Milk is a key ingredient for many food recipes. Keep one in your base for a steady supply.

Survival Tips

💡 Pro TipPress and hold the Pal Sphere throw button to charge it. A fully charged throw has a higher catch rate than a quick toss.
