Base Defense Guide – Stop Raids Cold
Last updated: May 2024 · 8 min read · Updated for v0.4 Sakurajima
Base raids in Palworld are triggered when your base level increases or when you spend time in the area. A poorly defended base can be destroyed in minutes, costing you hours of progress. This guide covers everything you need to keep your base safe.
⚠️ Raid WarningRaids scale with your base level and player level. A base that survived early-game raids may get wiped in mid-game if you haven't upgraded your defenses. Reassess your setup every 10 player levels.
Understanding Raids
Raids are waves of hostile Pals or human enemies that attack your base. You'll get a warning notification before a raid begins, giving you time to prepare. Raids end when all attackers are defeated or your Palbox is destroyed — if the Palbox goes down, your base is lost.
- Raids happen more frequently at higher base levels
- Both wild Pal raids and Syndicate human raids can occur
- Your combat Pals assigned to the base will automatically fight
- You can and should join the fight yourself during raids
Wall & Layout Strategy
The most effective defense starts with smart base layout. Walls force attackers into chokepoints where your turrets and Pals can focus fire.
Basic Defensive Layout Principles
- Surround your Palbox — Put your Palbox in the center of the base, behind multiple layers of walls
- Create a single entrance — Funnel attackers through one gate so defenses concentrate fire
- Place turrets on walls — Elevated turrets have better range and are harder to destroy
- Keep crafting stations inside walls — Attackers target active stations, not just the Palbox
- Use Stone Walls over Wood — Stone has far more HP and should be your standard by mid-game
💡 Pro TipBuild a double-wall layer around your core base. The outer wall slows attackers while your turrets and Pals shred them. By the time they breach the outer wall, most should already be dead.
Turrets – Which to Build
Wooden Chest Trap
Tech Level 8
Basic early trap. Low damage but cheap to build and useful for early raids.
Single-Shot Sphere Launcher
Tech Level 12
First real turret. Throws Pal Spheres — can catch raiders! Great utility.
Mounted Machine Gun
Tech Level 30
High fire rate, solid mid-game turret. Requires ammo crafting setup.
Missile Launcher
Tech Level 44
The best turret in the game. Massive AOE damage, stops even late-game raids.
Best Pals for Base Defense
Grizzbolt
Electric · Combat Lv3
Powerful area attacks. Shreds groups of raiders fast.
Shadowbeak
Dark · Combat Lv3
One of the strongest combat Pals. Late-game raid stopper.
Blazehowl
Fire · Combat Lv2
Fire AOE damage hits multiple enemies. Good mid-game defender.
Beakon
Electric · Combat Lv2
Fast attacks, good damage. Easier to obtain than Grizzbolt.
