How to Farm Gunpowder & Ammo

Last updated: May 2024  ·  6 min read  ·  Updated for v0.4 Sakurajima

Once you unlock firearms in Palworld, ammo becomes one of your biggest ongoing resource costs. Gunpowder is the key ingredient in every ammo type — and Sulfur is what you need to make it. Here's how to set up a reliable supply chain so you never run dry mid-fight.

⚠️ Don't Get Caught ShortRunning out of ammo mid-dungeon or mid-boss fight is one of the most frustrating situations in Palworld. Always keep 200+ rounds of your primary ammo type in reserve before attempting tough content.

Gunpowder Crafting Chain

Charcoal
2× Wood → Primitive Furnace
Step 1
Gunpowder
2× Sulfur + 1× Charcoal → Workbench
Step 2
Handgun Ammo
1× Ingot + 1× Gunpowder → Workbench
Step 3
Rifle Ammo
2× Ingot + 2× Gunpowder → Workbench
Step 3
Shotgun Shells
2× Ingot + 3× Gunpowder → Workbench
Step 3
💡 Automate Charcoal FirstAssign a Fire-type Pal (Kindling suitability) to a Primitive Furnace with wood feeding in. Charcoal production runs automatically, which means your Gunpowder crafting queue never waits on Charcoal.

Where to Farm Sulfur

Mount Obsidian Volcano Region
Late Game · Highest Density
The best Sulfur farming area in the game. Yellow-tinged ore nodes are packed throughout the volcanic landscape. Requires heat-resistant armor to survive — craft it from Flame Organs before visiting. Build a second base here focused entirely on Sulfur and Coal mining.
Dessicated Desert Caves
Mid Game · Good Density
Desert cave systems contain Sulfur deposits mixed with other ores. Easier to reach than the volcano and a decent mid-game Sulfur source while you build up your gear for the late-game region.
Dungeon Chests
All Stages · Supplemental
Dungeon loot chests occasionally contain Sulfur. Not your primary source but a nice supplement when farming dungeons for other purposes. The Volcano Cavern dungeon drops Sulfur most frequently.

Automating Ammo Production

  1. Build a base in the Volcano region with Sulfur nodes nearby
  2. Assign Mining Pals (Digtoise) to collect Sulfur automatically
  3. Set up a Primitive Furnace with a Kindling Pal making Charcoal from Wood
  4. Queue Gunpowder crafting at your Workbench — Anubis (Handiwork Lv4) will craft it continuously
  5. Queue your preferred ammo type — it will auto-craft as Gunpowder and Ingots arrive
